Music wha?!
So after several months, I finally managed to venture up to the Banff Centre. What is that, you ask? It's a school for music and arts (amongst other things) right here in the small mountain town of Banff. How bizarre! In any case, it had its and downs.
First off, I was hoping to find practice rooms to break into, as well as musicians or artists to hang with as, to put it lightly, this town does not cater to that kind of person. There sure are a lot of bar-going, heavy-metal listening, australian snowboarders though!! Anyway, I found neither one. It appears that the Banff Centre provides 2 things in terms of music education: limited duration music programs for students from far away that they board and self-directed post-graduate performance study. Also, there aren't any obvious practice rooms. Perhaps I shall look again sometime. Bummer. Bonnie, however, has promised me that she'll move her upright piano here sometime in the near future -- Hurry up honey!
What was incredibly was how good it felt to hear the racket of numerous, conflicting practice rooms once again. How long has it been since i heard that? How long has it been since i LIKED hearing that? Never? Crazy.
I also checked out the gym there for Bonnie and I. I'm particularly interested in the climbing center and the squash courts. Should be fun! They also have a weight room, pool, badminton courts, and everything else a good fitness center should have. Not bad. Definitely considering it.
In one final bit of news, Jenn is coming out on Wednesday night and I happen to have Thursday and Friday off this week. Huzzah!!! Should be fun.

for the record, the reason that i haven't moved my piano in yet is because the steep and narrow stairway leading down to the new place is covered in ice. hurry up and melt that ice!
What about TR's moving in a piano in the bar and you could play there? Bad news about the inflatable bed I was going to send you from the cottage - it's burried in the shed and until the spring thaw, I can't send it to you. Sorry. But I will cause it would be nice for you to have for guests.

We had a SNOW DAY today, which I spent breathing, catching up on email, and pining over the fact that you seem to have found another token asian in your life (how you did this in Alberta, I'll never know). Tell me if he keeps his curtains closed too.
You know, I never realized how lucky we were to have a piano tuning program at Western until I had to sing against these godawful uprights that go out of tune every week. If you really miss dissonant noise, I'll send you a rehearsal recording.
Your mention of Australian snowboarders is edging me ever closer to a visit. I'll come when you mention Iron Chefs and a nude beaches (but not together! ahh!)
Miss you both.
hey Noah!! (please read that with an annoying nasal sound on the "ah" part). Thought I'd pop in to see how you're doing. Sounds like life in Banff is jim-dandy! (who the heck SAYS that?!?)
I too miss the racket of practice rooms...except the voice majors (sorry bonnie :P). It's been too long since I've touched either the clarinet or the piano, but I do happen to pick up random instruments from each country I visit. I have a hand drum from Thailand, a cheap erhu from China, and flute from Korea and a flute from Cambodia. Have I played any of these at any length...NOPE!
anyway, that's all from me! miss you!
ps: Jon, I have so many asian friends now, but you'll always be my "token". I'm the token white girl for lots of people :P
